350 IH power Steering

I am adding the torque amplifier (behlen the one that mounts in the steering shaft) to a 350 that is not a factory P/S I didn’t move the flow divider over to the new tractor. I know you can buy an aftermarket flow divider. I will not use the hydraulics for any other reason but P/S. My question is if I run the hydraulics through the torque amplifier and then to the hydraulics system will it be ok or will it damage the amplifier or give other problems? Thanks

Torque amplifier is not the correct name for the behlen unit. Think you probably have a farmall 350 tractor and you are getting answers for a IH utility.
If you have a valve set to double acting with the operating handle tied or blocked to deliver constant pressure, and run its pressure outlet to the steering unit and the return to its other outlet it will work. Don't know if it would give any problems for long term use. Saw one of those units mounted on a H one time and they were running it straight off the transmission driven hydraulic pump. No move no PS.

Not sure the torque generator will handle the full flow of the pump, which it would be getting if you plumbed direct to it. If the Behlen is like the Char-Lynn for flow capacity, it only needs 2 to 3 gpm to operate and if you try to push the full flow through it, it may lock up or at least not work properly. No more than a priority flow divider costs, it will be worth it, and who knows, you may want to use your hydraulics some day.
