On a Farmall 460(560 same???), are the planetary and clutch type ptos interchangeable? Does one type have any great advantage over the other? Thanks |

They can interchange 460 uses a spacer because of the 460 is a shorter frame tractor but the pto unit will change out.You have to keep the same type in the switch, band clutch or disk type. Both can be ajusted from the outside.

You can change the planetary type to an over center clutch type but, like Pete posted, you also have to change the two gears up front to get the correct speed.

You can swap a clutch type from one tractor to another and planetery from one tractor to another but you cannot swap a planetery with a clutch type due to the different gear ratios. A clutch type is a direct drive and a planatery has a reductions internally.

Not interchangeable. The drive clutch end PTO drive gears are very different for either. Much more involved than Unit interchange. Jim

Never dealt with planetary, but there two clutch types. Early type must be removed to adjust clutch, '62-up clutch was adjusted through large plug in housing.
