Notjustair 11-11-2012 15:48:49 174.229.64.31 Report to Moderator	I just bought an M cheap to use as a parts tractor. After running it a while I decided to keep it and make mine the parts tractor. It has live hydraulics and power steering so it will make a much better loader tractor than mine. Switching those loaded rear tires out won't be fun, but the tires on it are way past shot My question is about the power steering. It has the Char Lynn unit. The pump is good but the guy took the motor part off of the steering shaft. He said it needs a part in it. My question is how easy are these to rebuild and find parts for? Should I just look for a used unit to put in it instead? I haven't been into it to see exactly what it might need. [Reply]   [No Email]

Wrong and it could try to turn it the opposite direction you are turning the input. What you are doing is when you turn the input shaft a minute amount, the valving applies pressure to turn the output motor, if the valving is right, in the same direction you turn the input. I have a Char-Lynn on my 1958 240U and Dad had one installed on a JD 60 that he bought in 1958, so I've used them, but never worked on one. I worked in the Engineering Experimental Lab at Cessna for 25 years before Eaton bought them, then 13 more for Eaton before retiring 10 years ago. [Reply]  [No Email]

Aks the seller for the two piece steerin shaft he used. It may have a much better worm gear on it. Usually one large 2 dollar O ring will "repair" the T/G [Reply]  [No Email]

Contact B&B Hydraulics in Hutchinson. They may have parts or can rebuild it. Eaton still makes a Char-Lynn torque generator, but it's probably updated and has different parts, but B&B may have what you need. [Reply]  [No Email]

The guy told me to make sure when I took it apart that I didn't get it out of phase. I immediately thought of PTO/drive shafts. Same thing? [Reply]  [No Email]
