field resistor for farmall H

Does anyone know where to locate a new field resistor for use on a farmall H with the 4 position switch and using a cutout mounted on the generator? thanks, Mike

A new OEM-style field resistor is gonna be hard to find. However you can substitute any wirewound resistor rated at 2.8 ohms and at least 15 watts. Inquire of your local amateur radio operator or electronics geek.

Incidentally actual resistance value is not critical - anything from about 2.5 to 3.0 ohms works fine.

easy to sub.. I did mine with a handfull of ceramic cased power resistors from radio shack. took a lil playing with value.. but tickles just fine..

Do you have the original style cutout, it had a resistor mounted on it that was used for a tractor without lights for a permanent low charge. Could use that one.
