Allfarmalls

I just purchase a farmall c. According to the hood, it is a super c. As I look at the serial number on the tractor (2249) it would appear to be a 48 C. The engine has the number 3158 on the flat spot on the right side of the engine. It also has what looks to be RMAM or RMAN and it also has the letter G stamped in the upper right hand corner of the block. Also on the right hand side of the engine where it bolts up to the bell housing you, the cast of the engine curves in exposing some of the bell housing flange and one bolt hole not used. Would this engine be out of a B farmall or A farmall. My other C has the engine flange and the bell housing the same. Do you think it is a remanufactured engine? C not super C?

Serial number indicates a '48 C, but it could be a mutt or frankentractor.

Does it have disk or band brakes? Band brakes means C.

Is there a 2" air gap under the gas tank? No gap means C.

Straight or curved pedal arms? Straight means C.

Can't help you with the engine. I would be interested in seeing a picture of the curve you're talking about. AFAIK the bell housings are all shaped exactly the same on A, B, C, and Supers.

Is it possible that material has been broken out, or otherwise removed?

One of my friends has a similar tractor. It was repowered with a power unit engine and also has the 'gap' you are describeing.A lot can happen in 60+ years....

The engine has been changed that engine came from Baler, combine or maybe just a power unit. Those engines had a starter mounted forward from the flywheel thats why the void is there. Now if you look at the part# on the block and the cast code you just mite have a later block that would take the 3 1/4 sleeves and pistons. I have one getting ready to rebuild as they overhauled it and let it set in the rain and rusted all the pictons fast so it gets new 3 1/4 kithi dome.

He says the engine block has the curved place not there on some power units the starter went forward thats why the cut-out on the block is there.
