H nine speed

You can put it in if you put in all of the transmission gears and shafts from the H. The SH uses different gears that are thicker and the 2 3 and 4 gear ratios are different. The upper shaft that the sliding gears ride on is also different to make room for a bigger pilot bearing. I put Super H gears and shafts in my 49 H and I like the SH gear ratios and superior strength.

If you change all the gears and use your tractor for hard pulling such as plowing or heavy trailing implements you lose power in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th because they are faster. 4th is not really a tillage gear at either speed but 3rd is, probably not much effect on 2nd. The added power in the SH sort of compensates for the increase in speed. The H can use thinner sleeves and about match the SH though. Due to the intended use of 6,7,8,9, I doubt if they are affected much.

I thought H gears were slower than SH gears for the same engine RPM. (I can be wrong, but a SH following a H catches up with it and throttles back.) Jim

Whoops! I got it backwards, my answer is for SH gears in an H. Putting the H gears in a SH will actually increase pulling power. I suppose I was on the computer too long yesterday.
