460 farmall

Just picked up a 460 with a wide front. Tires are decent, tin is good, runs good, only thing wrong is hydrlics do not work. Pump growls, filters look alright. the guy I got it from said he had used it and hydralics worked fine. Parked it for the winter and then went to use it in the spring and the hydralics would not work. If any one has any ideas where to start looking for the problem, it would be greatly appriecated. Thanks in advance

Could be out of oil - those pumps often had seals go bad. If the crank case has too much oil then the extra came from the hydraulic system. Several other reasons could be the problem but there are better people to explain them than me.

The 460 was the first series to use a transmission mounted hydraulic pump instead of an engine mounted pump. There is no common area where the hydraulic oil can enter the crankcase.

Check for leaks on the intake side of the pump. Orings go bad there and suck air. Over filling it might also help prime the pump, as well as working the levers and remotes and steering to assist with prime. Jim
