H just stopped

I started up my H that I got a couple months ago and was running it at half throttle when it just died. Now I have nothing at the starter. Not a even a groan. Wiring issue? Battey? I'm baffled as usual.

well with the little info i would try another battery if that starts her id check generator sounds like generator not charging and battery went dead

Once upon a time the battery terminals on my H shorted across the bat box lid and melted a clamp! It just died... I would check connections on battery.

You've got a bad battery connection, most likely.

Usually it's either one of the clamps on the battery terminals, or the ground connection.

Rather than just be baffled all the time, try learning about the various systems on the tractor and how they work. That way instead of having to learn each individual problem/solution combination, you can go through each system when you have a problem, and find the problem.

Example: Tractor dies and won't even turn over. Since the starter won't turn you know it's an electrical problem. Where does the power for the starter come from? The battery. Okay, check the battery voltage and the connections on the top of the battery. There are a couple of big fat cables coming off the battery. Follow them, and *check* everything you come across as you follow the cables. (Looking at something does not qualify as checking, usually there is a test you can perform.)

Check your coil.My Sh did that. When I rewired it/converted it to 12v,I neglected to replace/add restrictor to the coil. The 12 volts smoked it after a short bit of running.

Well #1 check battery to make sure it is not dead. #2 check battery cable connections. #3 check battery cable connections where they go to ground and where they go to the starter button. #4 use a jumper cable from the battery ignition side right to the starter. BE 1000% sure it is out of gear and see if it will spin over by doing that. If it does then the starter button is bad. If it does not the start is locked up to the flywheel or it is bad or a cable connection is bad. No matter what you should get a few sparks when you use the jumper cable

Here is another scenerio ( spelling). Tractor runs for a bit, dies. You hit starter, starter gets stuck, drive to ring gear. So, you loosen starter bolts to allow starter to come loose from flywheel ring gear. Probable reason tractor dies after it had stood for a few days is carburetor float needle stuck so it ran until carb bowl runs dry. To check, take plug out of bottom of carb to check gas flow. If none, tap carb with wood stick, plastic screwdriver handle and see if gas flows. If so, problem solved. If it was not stuck needle, ignore my comments and go with other replys.
