Looking into alternative methods of adding hydraulics to my M for a loader. Right now my options are:

PTO pump
Gear pump driven off belt pulley
Gear pump driven off crankshaft

Looking for something in the 16-22GPM range...probably 2000PSI I would guess? What kind of pump would you recommend? Was looking at Prince SP25 pumps but have no idea where I should be looking RPM wise or what I would need for gear reductions. Mind teaching me some and maybe sharing some pictures??? I think I remember you having some similar setups that may help me.

P.S. - Loader is a Koyker Super K and I have 3 spool valve as I eventually want to add a 3pt as well. Will be used primarily for snow removal.

i took a complete hyd system of my 450Lp when i restored it. had an M&W pump (oblong top mounting hole to fit straight M) with res tank dual spool and flow divider. sold it to a freeind of mine and he's not gonna use it now. i bet you could buy the whole setup for less that what just a new pump would cost you

Do you now have a charlyn power sterring pump on the M? I replaced that pump with a dual-outlet belt driven pump from a John Deere 95 combine. The 3/8 pressure outlet supplies the power steering and the 1/2 in. supplies the other remotes. Works great but needs a wider belt. Armand

On a M, the only place to find live power is the front of the engine. On the left side there are high, mid, or below frame-rail positions. Right side is before or after distributer, or belt or chain drive with pump sitting on frame- rail.

You will probably want about 15 GPM with a minimum of 1500 PSI. You could probably settle for less though.

Lots of pumps on eBay, Surplus Center, Craigslist, and so on. Make sure the direction of rotation is right. Use Hy-tran (or equivalent) from the rear frame.

If you want bolt up go with Belhen, M&W, or similar. I may have a good used M distributer pump that I will probably never use. I am not buying any more tractors. Don't know PSI or GPM. I can send a picture if interested.

I like the below set up as it will never lose prime and pump size is close to unlimited. For some reason, I seem to be the only one who has done it this way. No sheet metal was hurt during the installation of the pump. The electric clutch is optional and does restrict pulley sizes. Might consider using a cogged belt.

Thanks for the input and pictures! Will have to see where I can fit a pump...tractor has NF now but I would eventually like to convert to wide and loader mounts may also restrict mounting locations. Will keep you guys updated. Thanks!

P.S. - Alot of pumps on ebay are 2-stage which I do NOT want, correct?

Be slightly easier to install on a narrow front. My tractor is a F-400 with the correct IH wide front. I suspect any front end can be made to work around it.

Here is another picture that I probably haven't published before. If you were to lose the high cost clutch pump, you have more options on where to place the pump under the tractor.

With a loader like that a bellypump simply wont have enough stuff to handle it.The mag pump on my SM puts out 12gpm at 14oo psi.Diverting PS flow will further decrease its capacity to run that loader.Spend the money,go with some kind of a pumping system. You wont be sorry and be better off in the long term.I wuold be happy to help 'walk'you through it.

Whats wrong with using your belly pump? That would probably be the cheapest. Its only around 800 psi but its already on the tractor or could be installed cheaply. My M uses the belly pump for the loader works just fine. If I where gonna add a pump it would have to be live so I could add power steering.

Crap I forgot all about my power steering!!! Guess that leads me back to a live pump in front of the distributor or something driven off the crank.

Use the original pump if all you are using it for is snow removal. We had loader on the M and used it for everything without live system not hard to do.
