IH 574 2250 Won't Lift

My IH 574 with a 2250 loader worked well until I unhooked the hydraulic lines supplying the loader from the 2 rear remotes. I did this to use a hydraulic post pounder which went well. After unhooking the post pounder and rehooking the loader hydraulics the next day, the loader does not operate properly. The tilt for the bucket does not work and the loader lifts poorly and erratically. It will not go down, unless the tractor is off and then it moves only inches at a time.

Also, trace you lines to make sure you have lift hooked to same valve and bucket hooked to other valve. I had a customer a few years ago, took loader off, put it back on and had all kinds of goofy things happening. Also had a guy hook corn planter that way as he was used to his old case tractors set up.

Thanks for the suggestions. It works now. I did nothing except lower the lift which finally went down like normal with the power off. Fired it up and all works well. Is it possible air entered the system? It is possible I hooked it backwards. This is the first time I unhooked it (purchased recently) and did not record the line placement.

If you hooked it up backwards, the levers would work opposite of the way they did before. Down would be up. Dump would be curl. And vice versa.

Did the tractor sound like it was straining when the bucket wasn't working?

I suspect you didn't have the couplers seated properly. That happens from time to time. Usually they pop completely out, but I guess sometimes it's possible that they could settle into place on their own when the pressure is released.

One more thing, before you unhook the loader next time, FLOAT the hydraulic valves to relieve the pressure on the lines.

If your tractor does not have a float position on the remote valves, then shut the tractor down and work the levers in both directions a few times to relieve the pressure.

It makes hooking and unhooking much easier.

Thanks again for the tips. Will try floating and/or moving the loader valves in both directions prior to removal.
