Saw this on CL its not to far but I know the MD's can be money pits. I'm scared to go and check, buy it, then end up in the hole. I don't need it but i don't not need it either LOL. Hahaha What do you guys think.

I was curious and talked to the guy... he said the clutch/pressure plate come apart in it so his dad dropped the belly pump and that was it they just let it sit. He said it sat outside since it broke down and hasn't been started either. He said the rear tires were loaded and rims were rotted. Also said the tires were shot. As I figured it would be a money pit it does look to have the cast shift knob so its probably a wartime tractor, gues that's the only thing going for it. Best case is it would be a parts tractor. Jim.

Ad says it has not been USED in 8-10 years. Does it run?

It doesn't look like it's been sitting outside for the last 8-10 years in Pittsburgh winter weather.

If it runs for $1100, then it's a keeper.

I'm going to call tonight. Then take a battery and see if it'll turn
over. If it turns over I'll negotiate. If it won't turn over i think I will
let it go.

One common comment I have seen on this board over the 15 years I have been on here is cracked heads on the MDs. That will be really expensive to replace if that is the case.

Its a gamble the big question is how much do you want to invest into it. The belly pump is cheap to replace, but how good are the tires and rims... there's possibly 15-1800 to replace,if the heads cracked possibly another 1000+,injection system rebuild 1000+ and on and on. If you like mds look for one that is running I have less than 5000 in my 2 mds both have decent rubber really good metal run good 1 is complete the other is 80 percent complete. They are really neat tractors but alot of the parts are getting very hard to find and are expensive that's their biggest downfall. I agree with the guys 500 is fair price. Jim.

Yes, that is a very fair price. MDs don't stick the motors near as easy as gas tractors. They also run in REALLY bad condition. The injection system and a rebuild can get costly, but like I said it doesn't take much to make them run.

OMG the lift-all is missing!!! I wouldn't buy it! That could cost almost $20 to buy another one...

.....But by the time you add a new seal and some gasket for cleaning it out the whole project could spiral to $30!

I'd rather buy one in this condition than one that's been "fixed up". Of course it's best to hear it run.

Do the usual checks but open the oil drain on the injector pump to see how diluted the oil is or is not. The hydraulics appear to be missing, but the generator is intact. The front and rear tires both show a pattern of having been sitting in the dirt for a while. My guess is someone inherited it and just needs it gone.

Is that a cast iron shift knob I see? I wonder what year it is.

If it was in my area, I'd jump at the chance of getting an MD. But that is just me.

$500 won't touch it! I know personally, one time I offered a lowball price on a truck that didn't run in five years, the guy literally ran me off his property. There's alot of people out there that get very offended. My opinion if you really don't want or need it, leave it.

Go get it. At 1100 (most likely a grand) you can part it out and get your money back if the engine is toast. I'd love to have a MD. my Dad farmed with one and says the power was way ahead of the green, blue and all the rest. Kent

Unless you have some solid history on the condition of the motor it would be very hard to give much more than scrap value. Parts for that motor are pretty scarce and pricey. If the crank, mains, and rod bearing are good you are halfway there. If the head is serviceable and the pump is okay you are in pretty good shape. Pretty hard to determine these things on a Craigslist tractor. Tires look a little iffy too. Rims might be okay but who knows. It looks pretty straight but other than that it is pretty hard to tell what it might be worth.

That was my thought. Since I don't know much about it I figure I might let some one else deal with it.

The muffler being bent over probably) let water into the head. I would pass on it The belly pump it gone, the light/steering post is bent, and it just is not worth 1100, 500 yes, but only if you have a plan, or are parting it out. Jim
