| Hi Carl, again as Gene said, check battery connections, especially the ground and where the ground connects to the frame. My brother has had a couple of starter problems on his 454, one Lucas starter developed a short to ground and another the solenoid would just click. The contacts were burned on solenoid and tractor would start with jump direct from battery to starter terminal. DO NOT jump direct to starter unless transmission in neutral and parking brake on. Starter shop said in an emergency solenoid contacts could be filed or turned a half turn but only a short term fix.Is it a Delco Remy or Lucas starter? If it is a Lucas you may have more difficulty finding parts. JimB |
