Im considering changing from acetylene to propane on my victor torch. Im ignorant about the hardware changes required and looking for some input. Torch is used for general purpose cutting and heating, occaisonal brazing. Thanks

Just buy a different tip for cutting, my propane tip is made of two pieces, maybe for easier cleaning. Same hoses for 20 years and change between lp and acet. often. chris

Propane tip is definitely different. Like matthies said you need the two piece tip, designed for propane. Don't listen to the old wifes tales that propane needs different hoses and or gauges. Tip is all that needs to be changed!!!

I switched to propane for cutting back in the early 70's, a lot cheaper to operate. Does not work worth a darn for welding though.

Just get the propane tip. I did that years ago and have been real happy with it for cutting and heating. The regulator doesn't care if it regulates propane or acetylene. There is something to the hose thing, you're "supposed" to use the hose with a certain code, easy to find the info with a google search. That said, your torch set may already have that hose.

Preheat for cutting will take a tiny bit longer but will be way cheaper than acetylene!

Been using propane for 20 years. Propane tips are different from acetylene, and your torch maker should have them. My first set of hoses weren't rated for propane and failed after 15 years. New hoses are rated for propane. Works fi ne for cutting, heating, brazing, never tried welding maybe not so good. A 20# propane tank lasts FOREVER.

I bought the tips this summer and tried them, this was in bright sun and I could not get it to light corectly, could not see the flame, will try again this winter in building so will not have that sun problem. They gave be tips on lighting that may help. My propane tank is still on the camper and it is too big in diameter to fit on my cart. The torch dealer said they will not work for brazing or welding, something in the gas that keeps the weld from acting like it should. Never learned to braze or weld tho. Only use it for heating and cutting. Hoses getting where going to need replaced, layed here for 10 years before put them on and that has been 15 years or more now, got the torch 33 years ago.

There is a hose that is rated as "All fuel hose" the rating is T grade, most hose is T rated.
