Internation 584 clutch issue

When engine running clutch will not disengage, tried doing all the routine pedal adjustments, did not help. With engine not running can shift to any gear, start the engine and move in the preselected gear, just cannot shift. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Usually the throwout bearing and fingers are failed.

I had one many years back that had a fuel leak off line leaking, diesel fuel seeped into the clutch housing and the clutch dust packed around the pressure plate and wouldn't let it release.

Hi Jim
Thank you for your reply, it had been sitting for some time, we use this tractor very sparingly
A new clutch was installed about 40 hours ago, also this was 43 years back.
Any help much appreciated

Hi Jim
We had a new clutch about 40 hours ago
Do you think your comments could still be pertinent with that info
Thanks for your help

Hi Tom, I suspect clutch has stuck to flywheel or pressure plate.
My brother's neighbor who is a hobby farmer had a Kubota that had sat in a shed all winter without being used and same problem as your 584.
BE CAREFUL to do this out in the open spaces as the only way to stop is by shutting off engine or stalling it with the brakes.
Solution was to tie the clutch down, start it gear and carefully drive it to long driveway and for your 584 put it in 2nd or 3rd HI and jump on the brakes until the engine almost stalls then release brakes after repeating a few times clutch let go.
If this does not work then you will have to open the inspection plate under the clutch housing and attempt to have a look for some mechanical failure of clutch and pressure plate.

Hope this helps

Hi JimB
Thnx, will try that and let you know. I did start it in gear and drive it home from the field but did it in low and did not touch the brake, to stop it I just shut it off. Will try the high and brake thing.
