Need help from A people

Yesterday I traded some stuff for an A. It is in really good mechanical shape and ended up with lots of implements too. I am an H and M guy - I don't know much about these.

The guy thought it was a 47. I'm thinking otherwise. It doesn't have a water pump. It doesn't have the pedistal seat, but has a Monroe style like an H or M. It doesn't look cobbled. Were those an option? To the left of the seat on the diff is the number 5.22.P. Is P a year code? The engine has 6342D stamped behind the filter canister. Is that an engine number?

I ordered a manual, but want to tinker in the meantime. I have searched online, but you know how much wrong info is out there.

It is probably a 46 or 47. Look for the engine number since your serial plate is missing. It should be same as eerial number. 5-22-P was cast 5/22/1946 which is within range of being on a 47 tractor. 6342D is a part number. That seat was addeed later. The serial plate was on the seat bracket which was oviously removed from this tractor.

Look for smooth machined area just below No1 sparkplug near the radiator for the engine serial number. Hal

Sounds like you got taken. I would be willing to get it off of your place to get rid of the evidence. lol As was already said, the serial # is stamped on the engine block under the #1 plug hole. They are mechanically almost identical to the B and very close to the C, and very simple to work on. good luck, show us some pics when you get a chance.

As did not have water pumps. As for the seat that would be an aftermarket type seat.

It looks just like that one Bob. Needs paint in a serious way and doesn't have hydraulics. The guy had mounted the pump and tank from a grain truck off to the side, so it did have live power. That got removed pretty quick. I'm sure that hanging something like that off of the side of the generator cannot be good.

I thought they put water pumps on the later ones, or was that the supers? It does have the short oil filter.

I sure wish it had the pedistal seat. Getting on it with that Monroe is a booger.

Being cast in May 46 sure would not be a 47 as in those days tractors were built well within 30 days of the castings. The one my Dad bought new was delivered within the 30da of casting codes in fact it wasnt even three wks from cast codes to delivery.

New seat pans are around 150 the springs are another 50 or so the base can be found for around 60 and up used. I dont like those seats either but some like them because of the ride. I have one sure would like to sell they just spoil the platform but many were sold aftermarket. Seat assy is the same as the Bs and those with Bs some like to add the assy on the left for riders i have sold several that way. I make the floor pans also seems to be a fair market for them.
