Super M coil question

Hey all,
Recently my '52 Super M wouldn't restart when hot. I'd done the plug wires, cap and rotor but for reasons I can't remember hadn't done the coil. I replaced it which made no difference but the replacement was marked "For use with external resistor"
The tractor runs fine but that marking has stuck in my head, the one I replaced had no such marking and was physically larger in diameter than the replacement. This is a distributor system, original 6v. Have I made a mistake?

Thanks

Thanks, I've been researching a 12v conversion and that was what I thought after I posted.

Is the wire attached to the + terminal on the coil going to the points?
Original 6 volt systems were + ground.
For best spark the coil needs to be "grounded" through the points the same as the battery is grounded.
