Farmall A axle removal

This is the second time this year that I am removing the axle on my A (the one with the hub). Each time I have a heck of a time getting the axle out. The bull gear and inside bearing do not want to side off the axle. Does everyone have this problem or am I missing and easier trick? Swinging the 4 pound mini sledge is getting tiring (and starting to run out of nice little oak blocks

). This time it is getting a speedi-sleeve.

I did it on a B and did not have a big problem. Being sure that there is no weight up or down binding the axle shaft could make it easier. You should not have to use a hammer at all to get it loose especially if you just had it off.
