push-pull switch won't shut tractor off

Started H today for first time after rebuild. Runs nice except won't shut off with push pull switch. Has mag, new wiring, switch is new, single pole. Mag won't ground out when switch is pushed in.

Pretty l;ikely that the switch is not grounded. Use a jumper from the switch button to a clean metal surface then try it. Also try grounding the terminal right at the mag. If that does not kill it the wire from the points to that terminal is off. Jim

Jim, possible that there's too much paint on the bracket where the switch mounts?? Tractor is freshly painted. I tried to take some paint off of the area where the switch mounts, but maybe not enough. What are your thoughts?

Also something to think about you said you installed a new switch??? Did you use the 2 terminal switch(voltage switch) instead of the 1 terminal?????(Mag kill switch)

Im not Jim, but yes. To my knowledge that switch grounds out to the bracket killing the tractor.

I bought an A last year that did the same thing except it had too much rust to make a good ground. I had too take a grinder to get down to shinny metal - probably don't want to do that for a nice paint job.

The sw needs a good ground or it will not ground out the mag just5 clean up where its mounted that should do it.

To avoid all issues with paint, put a loop of wire behind the switch, between the switch and the elect. box, and run it to a chassis ground outside the box, possibly all the way to the trans tube. Jim

Correct police alert!!!

Try taking the wire off of the mag and put a test wire on the mag long enough to reach the base of the spark plug. With the tractor running touch the wire to the base of the plug. The tractor should stop. If not check inside the mag for the wire there.Mine was a dirty ground at the push pull switch.Good luck

Thanks. Test wire on Mag will ground it and stop tractor, so mag is OK. Not grounding at switch. Will address tomorrow.

I put in a new switch on my Cub a while back. It would not ground, and I had to connect to the terminal on the back that is flattened out. It seems it was internally the two terminal type. The new ground wire fixed it.
