any idea as to what would cause a broken top compression ring? and it was on all the pistons. Thanks in advance |

| Would have to know what engine and situation. I have seen many gasoline engines with broken top rings when they ingested dirt, wore out top ring and piston groove then ring busted. Detonation, preignition, will do it. If it was rerung, badly worn top ring grooves, cylinder ridge not cut properly could do it . On a diesel, excess ether usage, over fueling etc. Even too little end gap of rings. Many causes. |

| I would say that somebody put in a set of new rings and didn;t use a ridge reamer to cut the ridges in the top of the cylinders- mike |
