4 cyl eng swap

No. The H engine is a near perfect replica of that W6 engine but 75% size in all areas. It is only a really determined person with money and machine shop connections that would make that swap (frame rails would not go around the M engine), and then end up with zero advantage. It is far less expensive and much more functional to put an engine in it from a 350. With a big bore kit it will make more power than a stock M. Jim

The H, W4, I4, O4, 300 and 350 were of the same engine family but be prepared to have to adapt or change more things than you might want to to swap them out. The later engines were improvements over the early ones and make more power, the later tractor gearing was matched to the greater power level. IIRC they even run at different rpms. If you make a H engine fit in a 300 don't be surprised if your 300 can only run with the C's and 200 series tractors as far as draft, it will still be faster but won't have the power to pull what it was designed to pull. The 300 and 350 engines aren't particularly rare and except for the diesel not that expensive to rebuild even if you need to find major parts used. I'd go that way.
