Am timing H engine with mag after rebuild. I followed the IT manual. Cannot get mag to trip on first mark on pulley, but can get it to trip between the two marks, or on the second mark. What is correct? |

| From factory, H came with two marks close together and one by itself. The two marks, first one to come around in normal direction of rotation is tdc and second is 5 degrees atdc. The lone mark is to grease pilot bearing in clutch. When fire crater pistons are installed the pulley is supposed to be marked 22 degrees before tdc which would be a little over an inch. I remember the M distance, it is 1 7/16 inch but don't remember the H for sure. Time mag to tdc if you like but I much prefer a few degrees after tdc to be safe. They have such a long impulse lag that it will still be more than enough advanced when running. I should add, that on magneto equipped engines IH also made a special impulse coupling available when using fire crater pistons. |

| The first mark is not TDC. The last mark should be. Advanced timing comes before that, then IIRC a mark for finding the zerk for greasing the pilot bearing. Jim |
