Another clutch problem

Went to adjust the clutch and the Nut wont move. Hit it with pb blaster for hours and nothing. I measured the free play from the transmission deck to the point that the pedal engages the bearing and its close to 2" of free play, the book says 1 1/8". The bearing is about a 1/4" away from the clutch fingers when the pedal is against the transmission deck and i was told it should be 1/8th.

Should I be looking for a new clutch rod? I might be able to get the nut loose with heat and a few days of pb blaster but im afraid the rod wont screw into the bracket. Any ideas? ~Thanks, Anthony

It might be 3" of free play, I guess I measured to the front of the pedal and im supposed to measure from the transmission deck to the back surface of the pedal arm? I Dont know !!

Do you not have a manual for this thing????? If not you should get one as all of the maintenance type stuff is in there.

yeah, I have ALL the manuels for the M, service/operators/blue ribbon/parts catalog but all it says is to adjust the free play, not HOW to do it, or WHERE to measure from and to. They are not written for someone who has NEVER done it before and let me tell you its very frustrating!!!

The measurement is between, not to the front side.
Take the pins out of the rod, and put it in a vise.
Heat the material as needed to free it. It will adjust. Jim

In my ops book it is on PAGE 60.

"It is important that a clearance of 3/16" be maintained between the clutch release bearing and the clutch release levers"

"In order to maintain clearance the clutch pedal free play should be 1-1/8", measurement to be taken between the point of contact of the clutch pedal arm with the rear frame cover when clutch is fully engaged"

"the correct free movement can be maintained by adjusting the length of the clutch operating rod between the clutch pedal and the release shaft lever"

Hope this helps.

An oxy/acetylene torch is a "must have" if you're going to be working on these old tractors.

That is a fact :!: I could not get by without torches, welders, and a shop full of tools.

After 40 years of making a living in the repair field I have accumulated a fair set of tools. 8)
