Greg Hammel 10-06-2012 12:23:51 66.253.181.26 Report to Moderator	Picked up a 3588 from a gentleman,said it needed a torque, weird thing to me is that the high side will slip but the low side seems to hold just fine.Dont you usually loose the low side? like high side is direct. The flow divider does not control the flow to the steering as it does in other models. I have seen a couple of them where the pressure regulator valve and or flow divider sticks from contamination from the steering pump. I put a lot of filter screens fittings in to help solve this problem. Originally they did not have one. At any rate, the steering may still be working fine and you lose oil to the TA and brakes etc so direct drive will slip or not work at all. Check your regulated pressures and go from there. The red light should be giving you indications but so many tractors have red lights that don't work for various reasons and when you are new to a tractor you may not realize how it is supposed to work. Then also load it down in a higher gear on the low side and see if ya have slippage . Until i had some presure readings and check and see if the T/A control is working correctly and adjusted . Myself i would be leaning to the main clutch . But we are all just guessing as myself i can not test and see. [Reply]  [No Email]

The 3588 has a hydraulic TA. On those, it's anyone's guess which side will go out. With a mechanical TA you can run indefinitely on the high side. Once one side of a hydraulic TA goes out, the other side is not far behind. [Reply]  [No Email]

Janicholson 10-06-2012 13:06:28 96.24.99.126 Report to Moderator	Re: 3588 torque ? in reply to Greg Hammel, 10-06-2012 12:23:51   If the tractor operates as follows, it has a front or direct TA clutch that is weak, or has a failed hydraulic piston seal, or seals in the supply pathways to the piston. When in direct, the tractor will operate pretty well normally in lower gears when lightly loaded, or coasting. When a load is applied (such as lowering a disk into soil, the tractor will go into the governor a little, then start to slow down to the speed of the TA reduction. if the TA is pulled back, the tractor will continue at that speed. If this is not the case, if the tractor continues to go slower, than TA back, then it likely has a weak master clutch. if not other issues. Jim [Reply]  [No Email]

The pump pressure is multi-function and not limited to the TA clutch. Brakes, Steering, and Trans lube are dependent on that pressure. If the TA direct clutch is deteriorating it can contaminate many other components. Living with it is not good. If the pressure from the TA control is also weak at the lockup clutch (rear clutch) the tractor can both toast that clutch, and runaway down hill. (with possibly less than 100% brakes. !!!! I believe in TA equipped tractors. They are very much a factor making the tractors desirable, and work horses. My opinion is fix it. Jim [Reply]  [No Email]
