Farmall 300 with 8 1/2' disc harrow.

My 300 with fast hitch and 8 1/2' disc harrow work great. Lots of power. However the front end is still very light with the disc up. Makes it hard to steer. In soft ground I have to use the brakes or it just plows forward.

I have about 270lbs up there now.

How much more weight can I put on the front end?

I have an h with a trip bucket loader on it. Between the weight of the loader, and the load in the bucket, its prolly 1000 lbs. yours should carry quite a bit of weight on the front.

As a kid we worked a 350U and a 300F (neighbor) with that disk. We may have been fundamentally dangerous, but we drove with the front end in the air 50% of the time. Breaks are your friend.
I would put another 350 to 400 pounds of suitcase weights hanging off the front.
Put used snow plow sockets on the front, and put weights on the snow plow prongs. Easy to mount or remove with a cherry picker, or hoist. Jim

That's really strange that you can't keep the front end on the ground. That disk doesn't look [u:18f1d01064]that[/u:18f1d01064] much heavier than the 7' we had on a Super C. All we had were the front wheel weights and no frame weights. Yeah, it was a little light, but only enough to make it easier to steer.

I have a small point 7' FH disk for my SC. It's dramatically
lighter than this one. I've had the SC disc on this tractor, with
spacers, and it was no issue as far as making the front end
light.

Odd, I have the same disc with cut down points on my Super C, with no weight up front and the front has never come up. And yes I can pull it in third gear(down hill) and second up.

I don't recall ever pulling the 7' with the SC in 3rd, but we didn't have much for hills where we farmed. We may have been able to pull 3rd in corn stalks, but certainly not in plowed ground. I know stalks disked easier because I disked some stalks with a C and 7' JD pull disk, but it would not pull it after plowing... that was the very first [u:d11d6155fd]tillage[/u:d11d6155fd] work I did as a kid. Had been begging Dad to let me do it and finally one evening while finishing up the milking, he said go ahead and hook the C up and when he was done, he'd get me started... big day in an 11 year old kids life :) .
Just going by the picture, that disk didn't look that much heavier, but I'm not going to doubt what you say.
