826 tractor

If the 826 had been rated at ~85HP, that would make sense. That would put it right smack in between the 756 and 856.

However the 826 was rated 92HP by IH, with the 856 rated at 95HP.

That's a pretty lop-sided bridge if you ask me.

You're right.It is lopsided.But the 826 Hydro is
rated 85 pto(61 drawbar).Its a smaller 'frame'
tractor.As I read/understand,the 826 was built to
directly compete with the JD 4020.IH was loosing
sales because the 856 was"too big" and cost more
money.The 826 was a closer 'fit'.

It's sure amazing what a couple hundred dollars difference in price, and a little marketing, make.

"Yeah, um, so you think the 856 is too big eh? Well have a look at this 826. See how the IH logo is in the middle of the grille instead of on top? That means it's SMALLER! We won't mention that aside from the engine it's 99% identical to the 856. Best of all, it's $100 cheaper! We won't mention that it's a $100 difference on an $8000 tractor and wouldn't make a $2 difference in your monthy payment. It's cheaper!"

I own an 826,used to have 856,now own a 1256.I
really dont know the price 'spread'.All I know is
what I read in'RPM' and some other (IH) tractor
books.

I can say this..the 826 is not as tall.and the hood is narrower and a couple inches or so shorter.Wheelbase is a fuzz shorter, too. The 358(german) gets better fuel economy than the 407.But you are right, from the clutch back they are the same tractor.

All the Farmalls from the 706 through the 1456 are built with a 20 inch wide frame so they are all the same width. The 706 and 756 use shorter castings under the steering column and a shorter front grill casting so they are not as tall as the rest. Any difference in height from the 806 through the 1456 will be due to tire/wheel size.
