Farmall 560 no spark, replace coil, resistor

Farmall 560 won"t start. No spark. Replaced coil, still no spark. New resistor put in and gets warm.
Have power going into the coil on the plus side. Can"t get any fire out of the coil. Tractor just stopped suddenly. That is why coil was replaced. Points and condensor replaced. This has really got me stumped.

Not sure if the 560 is setup like the "M" distributor, but check and make sure that the insulator that passes through the body of the distributor is not shorted out. If it's shorted out it definately won't run.

Like said below, check about the shorting out. Is the button in the cap good that contacts the rotor? Is the rotor in good condition? Are you sure the distributor shaft is turning, and if so, is there still enough lobe on the shaft to break the points?

possibility but will have to wait until tomorrow morning to check that the insulator that passes thru the body of the distributor is not shorted out.
Thanks

1st rotate the engine until the points are open. Check and see if you have power to one side of the points. If no then the problem is between the points and the coil. Next check to see if you have power to the distributer side of the coil by disconnecting the wire and testing at the pole. If you have power throught the coil then the wire or insulator is bad. If you have power to the points close the points and slide a clean piece of paper between the points. Often oil or dirt is on them from the manufacturing process and all they need is cleaned.

I just had the same problem with my 560. I put a coil, resistor, battery, the works. I bet you got the same problem, you points are worn or are not set right. gap them to .023 then with the cap off turn it over and check for fire. I bet its off

Rub your points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. Then see if the engine will start. Hal

Make sure the rotor is turning - I think there is a pin that drives it inside that can break off. I know there is on an H distributor.

Your tips on how to isolate the short in the wire helped me get the tractor up and running again. I should have known all this but I will be undergoing major surgery tomorrow and time was running out. I know that I'm going to be laid up for a while and I wanted to get it up and running before the snow flies.
Thanks so much for all the help.
