restoring a 1950 super a and can not find any info any where on how to remove steering shaft from gear box, already have plug out and castle nut off but shaft only goes about 1/2 inches either way and stops . i dont want to damage it any help will be great thanks. |

| i have had to place a pipe wrench on the shaft, to help get it out. |

| You should never have to use a pipe wrench to remove that shaft something was realy messed up bearing must have been rusted fast. |

| Just like Srumper says remove the steering wheel and it will screw rite out the end. Before removing put the castle nut back on tight then by turning the steering wheel check how much end play the shaft has indicating a bad bearing on the shaft. The steering shaft should not have any end play when turning steering wheel back and forth. |

| take off the steering wheel and any collars and the whole thing comes out the front. hope this helps,stumper |
