Installing Belt Pulley

Hello,

Just pulled apart my PTO so I can install the belt pulley drive. Pulled the spacer + bolt off the end of the shaft to put on the pinion gear. I noticed the slots for a key? Wanted to know if I am missing a part before I pound on the gear!

** On the case ih site, I see I need a KEY, WOODRUFF, #11, 3/16" x 7/8", HT Product No: 126-119. Not sure where I can find one of those? Not sure exactly how it looks...

Eric

EDIT: Found some online, now to find one locally.

The spacers were necessary to make the drive gear for the PTO mesh properly. You might have to reinstall the spacers. Also the belt drive may require spacers at the gasket location to mesh the pulley gear to the drive shaft gear. It has to be done by trial and error and is certainly not automatic.

You can get the Woodruff key at any NAPA auto parts store. Sometimes called a half moon key, as that is the shape of it.

Thanks for the help everyone. Just grabbed a key from my local TrueValue store. Now tomorrow cannot come soon enough. ;) Made a shim out of gasket material to trace onto some flashing I have. Hope I can get it shimmed correctly with the materials I have at hand. We will see!

Got it all put together today. Yesterday I monkeyed up after putting on the pinion gear before putting the retainer & seal ring on first. Had to grab a puller lol.

After I got it on, I tested out the gear meshing with a scrap of .025 roof flashing. Gears bit deep, and the sound of it free spinning sounded a little rough. So I added in another shim. Retested and it bit a little less, still have a rattle sound from the gears (not grinding). NOTE: the shims I am using are paper gaskets I have cut. You think I should add in another one or just order metal shims off ebay? [below; right side of scrap is the first test..]

Gears are dry and not lubed yet. That could help with the sound I suppose. Wanted to check with you guys first before I put power to the PTO.
Thanks
