Spark Plugs

I know this has been asked a million times but the archive search is not giving me anything. Had a 450 head and now im using a M distillate head (rebuilt motor w/gas parts) but when I got the head it didnt have any spark plugs. Looked in the book but those plug #s im sure are old.

What plugs should I go get, as I research there seem to be many options? Whats most common, Champion D21? Tractor is going to pull a wagon, do some grading and maybe sickle bar mowing.

Many do not like Champion Plugs. I always thought it was just a prejudice against Champions. I had always used Champion in my H and always had problems with plug fouling. I switched to Autolite and had much better results. I now use Autolite in everything. The Autolite application says to use a 3116 (0.025 gap) for both M and 450.

I am running 386 autolites in everything. They are resistor plugs, but work fine with distributor ignitions.

Some people don't like Champions, but I always prefer Champions for old International or Ford products. In my opinion you can't beat them in a Farmall tractor or flat head V-8 Ford. Modern applications may be anothe choice.

Any brand over chumpions, any day here. I have real good luck with delco, and they're a buck a piece cheaper than chumpions.

I run champions. Have used both D21 and D16 plugs. No troubles at all. One place tried to get me to use NGK, which was a total waste of time, because the hex on the plug is so large that it cannot fit into the cylinder head. Used Bosch plugs once, but they were not hot enough and tended to foul. Stayed with champion since and no hassles at all. Never tried Autolite because they are not available off the shelf here.

Albert Champion, maker of champion spark plugs in early 1900's, changed to AC after problem with corp.

At any rate, you have to compare types of plugs, as to heat range, design of tip and material used , not brands.
