Any input on the OEM silver canvas seats?

I see they are on sale this month for 10% off. That puts them around $130. Are they worth it? Are the S teiner's ones different or any better? I see they are more money.
I would get mine recovered, but the rails are really worn out. I am really better off to buy a new seat because the fabrication work would cost another $100.

In my opinion, the silver canvas is easy to dirty up, hard to clean, and looks good for about 2 months. If left in the weather, they do not hold up. If I put one on, I would put a vinyl or fabric cover over it so it would stay nice. Jim

Got mine a few months back, now it looks bad. I keep the tractor covered with a tarp. Seems the glue is starting to stain through the canvas! Also the canvas is lifting up from the padding. At this rate, I suspect it'll last another few months before it is junk. Had over again, I would get the black seat or possible just the bare metal one.

Just bought mine in June, sat on it 4 time before I began to rebuild the motor and its gone from silver to a brownish grey...they make a black canvas seat (not sure where i saw it) and im going with that one next.

Everything said below is mostly correct.
They don"t stay clean long. Much better off with vinyl seat or seat cover. in what ever color you like. oldiron29

I have the same experience, although I bought both of mine at the winter convention last year (can't remember the vendor). One is on my 1946 A and the other on my 1942 H. Both have been kept either shedded or covered. Both have "stained". No longer silver. Gray-brown, although structurally fine. Haven't tried to clean them yet, and not sure I will, but I am disappointed in the fading/staining......................only good thing is that they are still in MUCH better shape than what came off of both tractors.

Don't know about the canvas seats. Bought a silver vinyl for my SC two years ago. Keep the tractor inside when not in use. Still looks new.

I use to buy them for tractors that I used for tractor pulling. Too much money for the amount of time they last. They tear easy especially if it gets rained on. I didn't have any that held up long. I just paint the seat now and leave it at that. I bought both types and neither held up. Maybe if you let it sit and don't use the tractor it might be a different story, but I use mine and beleive me there not worth the money.

That was an OEM seat?

(quoted from post at 20:06:15 09/22/12) I don't know where the guy got it, but there is a canvas seat on ebay right now that is dirty and looks really bad and he bought it in May of this year. Makes me re-think canvas. Now I want to see a vinyl one up close.

I would buy it and send it to in to get recovered for that price!

OEM, Steiner, other???

I know they are going to be more touchy than a vinyl seat, but I really want0 to stick with a cloth seat. This is for my WD-9 that is getting a correct police restoration and I hate to get an obvious ticket.
