66 series question

Quick question, what is the red light for on the right side of the dash on a 66 series IH, specifically a 766?

Is it suppose to be lit only when you push the clutch in? What"s it mean when you push the clutch in and the red light blinks in an irregular pattern?

Thanks

the mcv pump delivers its output to a series of priority valves , the order is: steering,brakes,t.a. control, &last lubrication. the idiot light is on the lube side. there is a high priced self contained bulb that blinks. if that is what is on your tractor that could explain the irregular. also after hard use & oil is up to full temp it is normal for light to blink at idle

Ah nop it is not normal for the lite to blink when the oil is hot at and idle , if the lite is blinking you have low out put on the pump or the sender is bad.

Since your question wasn't quite answered, yes, the light should be on when the clutch is depressed and off when the clutch is released. If it blinks, then something is wrong. Tractor Vet is very knowledgeable. You can count on his advice.

I will add to the blinking part of your question. It may or may not have a flashing bulb. It all depends on who put a bulb in it. You can easily tell if it is a flashing bulb by just turning the key on without starting the engine. If it flashes then you know it will also flash when you push in the clutch. If it burns steady when not running but flashes when running with clutch in you have some slight leakage into lube system. Far as irregular, those little flashing elements in those bulbs are not real sturdy so it if probably just a poor bulb. I always use steady burning bulbs for replacement as too many times the flasher is not dependable. You would need to put a gauge in where sender goes to get a good reading if you feel it is a problem.

We had 3 brand new 1466s (years ago) & I can promise you that every one of them would have the lube light blinking at full idle after a good work out 6-16" gumbo ground!! idle for 15 20 minutes , cool oil down light quit blinking.

Working at a dealership when those tractors were sold new if we found any like that they would have been repaired!

If it doesn't hold at least 18 PSI lube pressure you've got a problem somewhere.
