Hot Ignition Switch

Farmall 200 stalled while pulling empty trailer at slow speed. Noticed smoke coming from ignition switch. Replaced pull-switch but as soon as I pulled starter rod the new switch started to smoke, too. Ideas, please.

Pulling the starter rod was coincidental to the smoke. The wire going from the switch to the coil is shorted to ground, or the coil is shorted internally, or the ballast resistor (if it has one) is broken and shorted to ground. The coil should check at more than 2.5 ohms (out of the circuit). Jim

The switch is hot from carrying way more current than it should. It must be as described. you are welcome. Jim
