Specifically, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmall#Production_Information, states that the Super C had a 5 speed tranny along with the H and M.

Is that true?

If the SA and SC had so much else in common, would the 5sp SC tranny fit a SA?

If so, why in blazes didn't IH build or offer the SA with the 5 speed?

It's probably an error and needlessly got my hopes up about a possible improvement to put on the "round tuit" list when the ol' girl finally gets a chance to get shopped.

Please correct the error. To do so line up your sources and then follow the "Talk" link at the top of the article and bring the issue up for discussion in that forum.

The article's wrong.

C, Super C, 200, 230, 240, and 404 all have 4-speed transmissions.

Can you imagine a Super A at 16MPH down the road in a 5th gear? Yikes.

Yes , I can. My 140 Hi Clear goes 16.8 MPH, according to my owners manual. It does scare you a little, especially since you`re sitting higher and even more tippy than a regular 140.

That isnt the first for some data to be incorrect even some parts bok are off when coming to replace parts seems to be someone always on this site having charge problems after replacing a reg or a gen. The one size fits all as listed in some parts books dont always work.

cant wait to see the first sc/ta diesel high crop with a hi-low range come up for sale on ebay!!!!!!

I had to ask. IH seems to have done some odd things on occasion that were not produced en mass or well known. IIRC, there [b:d933311d02]was[/b:d933311d02] a SA/SC diesel, but it was only produced in England.

The 5 speed would not increase top (road) speed, but provide a lower 1st gear - what the hydro-creeper option provided but without tying up the PTO.

I have a line on a SA for "parts" that I hope to make a long term project out of, including putting in a Perkins diesel and a Hi/Lo pre-tranny (for 8 forward, 2 reverse), and possibly power assist steering. And no, it won't be for sale, because it would be far too useful here to part with.

Not sure IH made a HiClear C, but they made a good number of AVs (Hi Clear) for veg cultivation. Your desire as such would be a Super AVD1, and wouldn't be too 'far out' of original design if IH had the foresight to pursue it. :D

If the project SA turns out, I might consider putting the mods into production... It wouldn't be cheap, but it would certainly add versatility to some great old iron.

The SC Diesel was made in France must have found some more bad info. The Gensieng model rebult in Wisc some had a reduction gear box in the tourque . There is one here local but nobody seems to know what they used. Its on a B with wide front that they also made. Its mounted just ahead of the batt box area inside the tube with shift lever coming out one of the bosses and the shift lever is rite beside the regular shift lever.

Gene, thanks for the diesel correction. There's a lot I don't know about the vast IH history.

I'd love to see some pictures of that Hi/Lo on the B. This was an aftermarket addition? Matter of fact, I'd love to see it in person. Any chance of getting a look-see?

Thanks,
Well Worn

The C/SC Diesel was only made in France, not England. As far as I know there was never a high clear C/SC factory made. Also any C/SC found with a shuttle or other transmission other than 4F 1R was altered later in life.

IH put a two speed gear box ahead of the transmission in some 404 tractors. Also give 2 pto speeds. Maybe whats in a B other poster said was in wisconsin. Or some had a reverser box in place of the dual range.
