Well ive been working on my air conditioning and not having very good luck. I charged the system with about 3 lbs. Lines started to get cold and i thought everything was working. Then I found out my condensor fans werent working so i shut the tractor off. When i shut the tractor off i saw some smoke coming from the a/c compressor clutch, what does this mean, what would cause this, and how do i fix it? Do i need a new clutch, or would a whole new compressor be better?
I know the condensor was pretty darn warm without the fans running, would that have caused any damage?

May have but over charging it darn sure will. I'd go with a reman compressor with a new clutch on it. Then it may be OK to do a self charge on it. Get one of the kits with the lube in it. Then used a filler with a gauge on it. Close the valve from time to time to get your true pressure reading.

Did you have gauges on it, does not sound like you did. With out condenser fans running and or if the condenser is full of dirt like they usually are on that model, you high pressure would go through the roof and cause your compressor clutch to slip. The high pressure switch should have shut off compressor but who knows if that is working. Three pounds is fine if it was empty as it will hold about three and a half. Too many possibilities to speculate on just how many problems you have. Needs complete diagnosis.

i had gauges on it but my buddy wasnt paying attention to them i was on top of the cab. I replaced the high pressure switch, at what psi should the switch shut the compressor off? I cleaned off the condensor but alot of the fins are smashed down flat. If i get the fans working will the condensor be alright, or do i need a new one of those too? I dont know if a fin comb will even work the fins are smashed so flat. Im pretty sure the condensor fans have a bad relay so i ordered one of those that wasnt cheap.

Yes , You need the fans on or pressure will go way past normal, possible to go 400 psi or more if it doesnt have a high cut-out or if it isnt working. Could be a restriction also. I would get the fans working and try again before I went ahead with a new compressor or clutch, they might still be ok. Best of Luck
