Used Tires 12.4 x 38

I have found some used tires for my H. The man says they are rice tires and are hard. I have never heard of Rice tires? If they are hard does that mean they are bad?
He also has a set of Firestone on wheels, he says halph price of new, he says look good I have not seen them. What do you think?
Thanks Jerry

Rice tires have deeper lugs. "Hard" in my opinion, means the tires have been around long enough for the rubber to age and "harden up". It is a good thing.

Hard as in the opposite of soft. As rusty said, the rubber has hardened making the tire very stiff.

Hard is a BAD thing when you're trying to get the tires on/off the rims. The rubber can crack while you're flexing the tire, trying to pry it on to the rim.

Depends on how hard is hard, whether they're worth buying or not. Different people have different ideas of hard. The tire could be a little stiff, or as brittle as glass.

I am going to have a set of 12.4 x 38 to get rid of in the spring. They are not great, but hold air. I am updating them to 13.6 x 38.

They will be free for the taking in Eastern iowa.

I have a 48 C with what appear to be the original 9-36 tires, If not they are a very old. On concrete they feel sort of like steel wheels.
