To trade or not to trade ?

I have a 706 setting in my shop. Spent a ton of money on a 301 gas engine. Had the block bored.040 new pistons new rings new cam new lifters new rods and mains had the crank checked and polished had a friend put it all togather fired it up low oil pressure. We started to take it back down. My friend threw his hands up and walked away, said he never had seen this problem before. Now its been 2 years and $3300.00 invested in the change and it still setting in the corner. Had a offer of a running 560 gas even up. And another offer of a Ford 861 gas in fair shape even up for my tractor. What do you suggest? Any interested ? Trades? Thanks

low pressure on the factory gauge or on a separate gauge? A bad oil sending unit on a factory gauge could look like poor oil pressure. My guess is there is a simple and inexpensive fix with your low oil pressure, just gonna take a little looking around. If yu are d3ead set on trading then go with the 560 by all means if it has a 3 point or fast hitch.

Were it mine I would fix the oil pressure issue and make it good as new. Small issues can and do make low pressure. (like a stuck regulator) so trading it off would be worst case. Even paying a mechanic for 3 hours time would be likely to find the issue. Jim

Like the others stated, have it checked out and fix it. The traders may know something you don't and want cheap horsepower.

i'd try to find the problem with yours being you installed all those new parts could be something simple, years ago i put a rd 406 ih back in a truck for a man after he rebuilt it, started it up oil gauge started falling started knocking also, man was upset as the engine prior to this one turned the bearings shortly after being rebuilt because of the pressure relief valve was stuck open because of a small piece metal lodged in it,this time he installed rod bearings that the boxes were marked .030 under and had standard bearings in them, carried them back to the parts house they had another set boxed wrong still on the shelf, changed the bearings it was alright

another possibility is a plug was left out of oil passage when cleaned prior to assembly. have heard of this happening particularly on oil passages that are drilled thru from front of engine near timing gear and plugged after drilling note not familliar with this engine but it isa possibility. one way I have heard of to check out is remove oil pan and pump oil in thru where pressure gage hooks up and look for excessive leakage ( 1 ga. weed sprayer filled with oil?)
