can i adjust the fingers on the pressure plate? the outside lever goes against the bell housing before the clutch completely releases grinds to get it in gear looks like excessive distance between the pressure plate fingers and the throwout bearing

You can, but it is not the issue, and will be hard to get even if tried. The issue mahy be the release fork to shaft connection, wrong throwout bearing, wrong clutch Pressure plate, improper flywheel depth step from repair without proper specifications. Go there before turning the finger screws. A radically worn out pressure plate can also be beyond adjustment if the finger pivots are worn way egg shaped. Jim

If tractor has original IH clutch you can adjust the
fingers, but the way it sounds you have some other
problem. Have you just installed a new clutch and
disk is too thick or flywheel step was not
resurfaced to proper dimension. If not, sounds like
fingers and bearing are worn out.

rebuilt clutch and pressure plate and throwout bearing when engine was rebuilt anout 200 hrs ago pulls good just releases on the bottom ill check er out thank you

How much free pedal do you have and probaly the linkage from the pedal to the throw out gearing is worn enough places so the linkage doesent get enough travel to enguage the pressure plate.

ene i have plenty adjustment on the rod between pedal and the clutch release shaft assembly but the clutch release shaft assembly lever hits on the bellhousing and stops it from going any further foward that why i was wondering if i could adjust the fingers out twards the throw out bearing thanks for all the replys! i need to crawl under and look closer. it has adjustment on the pressure plate but will take you guys advice and see if i can find anything else wrong

(quoted from post at 00:56:38 09/19/12) Are the Woodruff keys in pace between the release fork and the cross shaft?
i dont know sir but i sure will be looking at that closely thank you

Can you give us some more details on the situation?

Is the tractor new to you?

Was the tractor recently serviced?

Did it work fine, and then suddenly one day develop this problem?

ok i had the engine overhauled about 200 hours ago the guy sent my old clutch and pressure plate out to a rebuilder also replaced the throwout bearing. it was close to the bottom prior that slowly getting hard to get in gears. i crawled under and had another look last night the fork that bolts to the cross shaft looks like its been spread apart some how theres a big gap between it and the throw out bearing carrier so im thinkigs its a combination of all the slop looks it going to to have to have another fork before long thanks for all your help guys. I dont guess theres a chance of getting the cross shaft unbolted and out from the fork with out splitting the tractor ?

Splitting would make the job a whole lot easier.

I did a clutch on an H once without splitting. Working upside down and backwards was difficult, and there was a LOT more room to work under an H than a 560...
