Attempting to change fan belt, unable to get adjustable pulley half to move. Set screw is out, have been applying pb blaster every day for a week. Going with assumption of right hand threads.Anyone ever have this problem? Any tips appreciated. I have never done one of these adjustable pulleys.

Been doing the same thing for my H for a long time now, never have been able to get her to move. PB Blaster, WD-40, pipe wrench, gently trying, tappping, hitting it, whacking it, no luck. Am real curious how others expericne is.

remove the set screw completely. using a brass wire brush and a blow gun, clean up all the rust and dirt from the threads, also, try and blow out any dirt that has accumulated in the flat areas under under the pulley. i use a brass drift and tap on the raised "flats on the pulley to loosen it. dont kill it, it will break if you are too rough on it. if all else fails, heat the pulley in a few spots to expand it, and it will come off. if you dont have a torch, any big box store has an inexpensive oxy map torh for about 50 dollars. it uses a disposable mapp cylinder and a disposable oxygen cylinder. here is a pic of the drift

One other thing......cut the belt off so you can get oil to the back side and you will not have the resistance of the belt either.

When you have it loose put a very SMALL amount of never seize on the threads and work it in prior to installing the belt.

Well on the first attempt i like to wire brush the threads as clean as i can get them then get the set screw out all the way . Myself i use Zep penetrating oil as i have found tis to be the best but i will use Blaster not as good but ok. I havea half inch. dia. brass drift and lightly tap as yes i have broken one and only one sofar once was enough . Then if that attempt does not give me any results then i heat it but not cherry red maybe 2-300 deress as fast as i can then lightly tap and get it moving just a little and keep working it back and forth .

By far the best penerating oil are Break-a-way and Kroil! I have not tried Rust Reaper or Zep. The more they smell the better they work! Armand

I used Zep years back when I had a source for it, now I use Kroil most of the time.

Some guys at work like the PB but I saw no advantage over Kroil

Never seen Kroil on the shelf at any local stores.

PB blaster is at every Walmart, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, auto parts store, and even one of the local supermarket chains carries it...
