1486 cab solenoid

I am having trouble blowing out a cab solenoid on my 1486 tractor. I will replace it and about 15 minutes later all electricity in the cab goes out. I can short across the solenoid and get power, but the solenoid will not do it itself. Got any suggestions?

Are you using the IH part number solenoid. Lots of solenoids are for short period usage like starter. You need a continuous duty one to survive. Actually IH had the part numbers mixed up in the 8 and 915 combines years ago so parts dept was giving wrong one for that application . They lasted about 25 minutes also and the one they subbed for starter was not heavy enough to withstand the heavy intermediate current draw also. Other things that get those cab solenoids is no being grounded good. I like to use a multi pointed washer on the ground. Also, excessive current draw from blower motor or just a poor quality solenoid.

Yea, I wondered about the blower motor maybe pulling too much juice. It sounds alright while running. The solenoid the dealer gave me looked a little different than the one I took off; could be he gave me the wrong one. I'll check into that. Thanks.

Cab solenoid 107655C1 is the good IH/CNH one. I suspect your cab fan motor is drawing to many amps, in other words needs replacing. It is 1987399C2 usually.
