Farmall 460, no oil pressure?

Anyone have any ideas what could cause the gauge to read zero oil pressure after a head swap and new head gasket? The 90 degree fitting off of the oil gallery on the side of the engine and the line to the gauge are clear. The gauge shows pressure when I squirt some air in the line. I ran the engine 2-3 times for 5-10 seconds at a pop so I would think I would have spun a bearing if the lower end wasn't getting any pressure. I pulled the valve cover and the top end is dry.

One of the bolts holding the rocker arms may have a hole in it the let oil through, at least it does on the 4 cyl engines, not sure of the 6. If you removed the rocker arms that could explain the dryness, but not the 0 oil pressure.

Those were my thoughts as well. Along with having the head gasket flipped 180 degrees off, if possible. I should still have oil pressure either way though.

The top end can go for an hour with no engine lube, if it was oily when assembled. The issue is getting oil pressure. the top end is not going to affect the pressure at all. it is fed oil in measured amounts from a cam bearing, and it is not under real pressure, it is pulsed to the upper end. I would put a pump oil can full of engine oil adapted to the oil pressure gallery fitting for the gauge. (rubber hose, little vinyl tube or the like. pump the oilcan till you feel some back pressure on the trigger. It might take two or three cans full. put in the fitting, and start it up. at least you know it has had a breath of oil now. and it should pick up prime . (it does have oil!?) Jim

Remember also, that is a full flow oil filter so it has to fill before gauge will read pressure. I like to just leave the gauge hole open, no spark plugs, ground or unhook coil so no spark from by pass circuit, and crank until oil comes out. You will not hurt an engine with starter cranking even with no oil pressure as you have no heat or pressure build up.

Just a thought, maybe a lifter came out when you pulled the pushrods. If one did come up you would loose alot of oil preasure. just my two cents worth, I seen it happen before

Well, just one of those things. The original steel tube had a hole in it and was dripping the engine oil EXACTLY onto the spot where the power steering hydraulic return line bolts into the casting under the dash. So, I thought that was a hydraulic leak that I had to fix. It has great oil pressure.
