New water pump and belt

I bought a new aftermarket water pump and installed it without adjusting for the fan belt.

How do you adjust for the belt, I see a nut and screw?

To get the fan belt on, do you put it around the crank pulley then rotate it onto the water pump pulley?

(quoted from post at 14:02:59 09/15/12) You use the adjustment on the generator or alternator to tighten the fan belt.

Uh, no. Not on the Farmalls. The pulley on the water pump is made in two halves, and the belt is tightened or loosened by moving those 2 halves closer together (tighten) or further apart (loosen).

Likewise the generator pulley is made the same way.

Find the set screw on the pulley. It will probably have a lock nut on it. Loosen the nut, and then back the set screw out. The outer half of that pulley is on threads, just screw the pulley either in, or out, to achieve the proper tension, tighten the set screw, making sure it is IN a groove, tighten down the lock nut and you're good to go.

The owners manual has pictures.

The water pump pulley is set up so it tightens up or loosens up to adjust the belt from the crank to the water pump. If you look the outer part of the pump pulley can be screwed in or out to make the pulley wider or narrower so that in turn tighten up the belt

I would adjust it all the way in with no belt, then put some never-sieze on the threads, open it up all the way, then put the belt on and tighten up. I would also put never-sieze on the setscrew.
