For some reason it seams the like its not getting gas..it will idle and when you press the the gas slow the rpms will go up a little. When you give it the gas fast it will almost and will die out. I changed the oil bath filiter & new oil and it makes a gargling sound. I filled it to the line that was shown. If I did over fill the bath filter, would it make it not get the gas? Any one have ideas???

It'll run without the air filter, so that has nothing to do with it. However, I strongly advise against running it for very long.

It is either starving for fuel, or the ignition coil is weak, or it is way out of time. How long since you changed plugs, points, condensor and set the timing?

Disconnect the gas line at the carb and see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. Hold a clean container to catch the gas. If that looks ok remove the tube fitting where your
gas line connects at the carb. Look for a screen that be full of crud. If your carburetor has main jet adjustment like the M's and H's has you need to open it. That will enrich your fuel mixture. If none of this helps your carburetor may need a good soaking in carb cleaner and all the jets blown out with air. Hal

They used these tractors for mowing a firing range at the Army base where I retired. They had very large rotary mowers on them and a metal shelter made from armor plate installed on each tractor to protect the drivers. These were artillery rounds being fired and some of them were duds. They usually had a demo team to police up the range, but some were overlooked. The 504's didn't hold up very good and didn't have sleeves and the government decided to send them to property disposal to be sold. Hal

Sounds like a carburetor problem. Maybe air leaks around the carb or manifold, maybe the main jet is plugged. Does it run any better with some choke?
