I'm assembling the parts to put the starting system on my A. When I bought it there was a dead generator on it, some bad wiring, an amp meter box with the light switch and amp gauge and the starter. I bought the push button starting unit that bolts to the starter. My starter has the 2 holes to mount the unit but nothing seems to line up correctly to make it work. Not sure whats missing - maybe the wrong starter for this type of starting button?

If the starter has a copper stud sticking up for the switch to contact, it is correct. The truth is that the switches available are made in a far off land. The spacing of the holes and purpose of the contacts are not a decisive factor in quality control. Note the location at which a lever movement will result in contact of the internal copper with the stud at almost full lever travel. This can be as much as a full hole diameter from where the """factory""" holes are located. Locate the place for the new holes, or how far the existing holes must be rattailed out to make it work. Some may be a pull type switch or a push type switch. Figure out which it may be. My B is push & the super C is pull. Your A could be either.

You can change the nose to make the holes line up as your starter should have a button and a saddle sw that you push to start the engine. Correct Delco# at the end of the tag should be 021. Too many of the starters on the A and B series have been changed with incorrect starters some like yours with a stud then needing a solenoid or heavy sw like Hand M used. You can get the correct rebuilts just get the correct one for an A OR a B the SA AND c,sc have the button on the other end and their sw are pull type.
