When reinstalling the sediment bowl body should you use teflon tape or possibly pipe dope on the threads into the tank.

Some have said that the tape acts as a lubricant and you can tighten it better. If you do use it, keep it low on the threads, so that it does not get into the tank.

I use Teflon tape but keep it back 1 thread from the end so none can get into the system. If you ever remove it be sure to get all the old tape off.

locktite put a seminar on at work around ten years ago and the guy showed us how teflon tape was mostly good to break fittings with because it balls up inside on the threads as you tighten up your pipe fittings. he had a bunch of fittings put together with a valve and gauge. it was hooked up to a co2 cylinder and when he opened the valve it showed 600# pressure. with reflon tape when he moved the fittings the least little bit it leaked. when he used his locktite brand pipe dope he could lossen the fittings three quarters of a turn before any would leak out.

I find locktite teflon thread sealant the best. Tape does not like vibrations. I have seen many a guy use tape on sending units and sediment bowls only to do it over again shortly. Dry threads when installing the sealer works the best.
