I'm in process of restoring my 1958 Farmall 240 tractor and the generator is missing the Delco Remy ID tag. I have obtained a blank one and want to have the model and serial no's. engraved on the new tag and attached to the generator. The starter has an original ID tag so I have access to the font and size. I know the Delco generator model no. from my parts catalog but have no idea as to a serial no. I believe I recall reading somewhere (and most likely on this forum) the serial no. is a code for the month, day and year of manufacture by Delco. Can anyone confirm this or provide any detail as to how the serial no. was derived. Thanks for your comments to this thread and your assistance to my restoration efforts, Hal.

If you google "delco date code" you find plenty of explanations. The first digit is the year, followed by a letter for the month, followed by 2 digits for day of the month. The letter I was not used.

If you have the original starter, you can use a code that is close to the same.

Thanks Jim for the response and I thought I had read that somewhere but wasn't sure enough to make up a tag without some conformation. I sent you an email so you should find it among your incoming. Thanks again for the code breaking help, Hal.
