I have a 1955 farmall 100 that I just restored about a year ago. Everything is doing fine except the hydraulic lift unit. Without a load it will raise and lower very well and fast. Once you add some weight to it it will raise about 3 or 4 inches and stops. Seems to get worse as it gets hot which sounds like to me once the fluid gets hot that it is leaking by rings or a valve in the unit maybe? Or pump? I don't know much about these systems and was looking for a little input. I have replaced the filter in the lift unit and fluid. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks

If the hitch is raised to mid level and a weight is placed on it and the hitch stays where it is, the piston is not leaking. If it goes down, it probably is. If it stays put, the issue is probably the pump. flow rating the pump, or at least pressure checking to see if it puts out ~1200psi when dead headed, is also a pump check. Jim

That helps a lot. I will double check to see if it bleeds down with weight on it at mid level and go from there. I know I can hook up to my disc and it will lift it about 4 inches off the ground is all, but it doesn't leak down after it gets it to that point. It will hold it there all day. If I can rule the leak out then I will dead head my pump and see what I'm building. Can you buy rebuild kits for these pumps? Its the small gear pump style. Thanks again

No they are not rebuilt. Could it be done yes at the expense of 3 times a new pump. Only very unique hydraulic pumps (with aluminum housings are routinely rebuilt). Jim
