Hopefully someone can throw me a bone...

Toying with the idea of getting a gasket/parts set to overhaul the carb on my FIL"s 450, vs sending it out to get rebuilt.

I"ll be darned, with all the outside crud, if I can find the ID number on it, so I can tell the diff between whether it"s an IH, a Zenith, or a Schleber, and if there"s a gasket set available. Hate to blow the $$ and also wait 2+ weeks to mail it and get it back, but it would sure be the easier way to go.

But I"m stubborn, and want to find those numbers. Any ideas where they stick them, so I can zone-in on them?

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

The model # is on a small, round, brass tag. It is riveted to the carburetor throttle body, just above the idle speed adjustment screw. Get a can of aerosol carb cleaner and a toothbrush so you don't scratch it all up to the point it is illegible.

Aha! Found it.

I was looking for something stamped into the body.

Thanks to you both.

Always the problem- who's to know if it's the original carb. Nice to have the ID.

The catalog I have only list ONE carb for the 450 and its number is 381984R91 and it is an IH carb. Last kit I got for that carb I got at the local O'Reilly's in town Only place I have to go to other then an Orshelins which is ok for some stuff but prefer a kit from the auto store and they handle Walker brand kits which are pretty good. Ya not as complete as an IH kit but for $20 a whole lot cheaper
