1586 exhaust temp

Cutting corn with the 1586 today in mid 90's temp in tall heavy corn. Exhaust temp spiked a few times to 1100 for about 10 seconds whenever I get into a tall green stretch, for the most part it was running 980-1020. Higher than it has been this past week cutting, but corn is heavier and temperature has been hotter. The exhaust temp warning light has been set at 1080 since I bought it four years ago. I don't use it for much heavy work except the chopper, so this is the only time the exhaust temp becomes an issue. What is safe operating temp and what is the high temp warning suppose to be set at. Thanks for any information.

Aluminiun starts to melt at 1221 degrees.

The turbo is made of aluminiun.

1100 is about enough.

Better pull the TA back on that tough spot.

We were told to limit continuous EGT's to 1,150. Brief (10 - 20 second) excursions to 1,300 were permissible but discouraged.

Incidentally only a turbocharger's compressor scroll housing - the part that handles cold incoming air - is made of aluminum. The section that handles exhaust is cast of ni-resist or similar heat resistant alloy. It doesn't begin to loose strength until well over 2,000 deg.

At about 1350 the China syndrome occurs and then it Huston we have a problem here and ya melt a piston out of her . I am not so worried about the hair dryer as the pistons. And the other thing to worry about is melting the probe off and sending it thru the turbo. Back in the day i pushed my Cummings NTC way past the reason of sanity and egt temps of 950 on the cold side of the charger as if i would have had the prob before the charger it would have melted off.

Thanks for the information, much more fall like today, left one hood off, exhaust never went over 1000 all day.
