IH 784 Hydraulics

The hydraulics on my 784 seems to be slow. Notice mostly when using the loader. I also have the hydraulic pressure light coming on periodically. I am going to start by changing the hydraulic filter. Manual says some oil will drain out, any one know how much? Anything else I should check?

Thanks,

Change the hyd. oil too, all of it. Years back I had problems with the steering in my 574, all because of dirty oil. Get it good & hot & change it & the filter.

Put a bucket or oil change pan under it when you take it off. There will probably be a pint or two of oil coming out.

The screen that sits above the filter will likely have a thick layer of crud on it (possibly including the lining from your parking brake band if anyone ever tried to drive with the brake engaged). A can of spray brake cleaner works well to clean it.

The gasket is a bit floppy and you need to be careful that it stays under the lip of the cover when you tighten things down.

Overall only a 15 minute job if things aren't too gunky in there.
