What comes next in the progression of the following

M, SM, 400,450,560 ??????

H, SH, 300, 350,460 ??????

C, SC, 200, 230 or 240 ?????

A, SA, 100, 140 or ?????

Thanks

After the 560 I would guess the 656. No idea what really replaced the 460. On the C series, it went: C, Super C, 200, 230, 240 and finally 404. On the A series it went : A, Super A, Super A-1, 100, 130 and ended with the 140.

M, SM, 400, 450, 560, 806, 856

H, SH, 300, 350, 460, 706, 756. Somewhere along the line, IH realized there was too big of a gap between the 460 and the 706, so they brought out the 656, which was based on the 606 utility. (I think)

We forgot the Super MTA in there, too. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of progression through common parts. Like on the A series, they all had the same drop axles and on the C series, they had pretty much the same rear axle housings from the C to the 404. On the 656 , my mechanic buddy always says their transmissions were an updated 560 rear end. No doubt the 806 model replaced the 560, but no common parts to be found between them. It`s all how you interpret the question, I guess !

The 656 was a newcomer,introduced in '65.the 706/806
were introduced in '63.Yes,I believe it was there to
bridge between 504 and 706.

(quoted from post at 01:53:27 09/07/12) You didn't ask, but the B preceeded the C.

And of course the 330, 340, 504, 544.

I always thought that the "B" and an "A" were the same tractor just that the "A" was newer. Did not think it was even "C" related.

Thanks for the replies guys, it helps an 'OL JD guy out alot.

It does get a bit confusing trying to figure out those small Farmalls.

The A and the B were both introduced in 1939, and were basically the same tractor, but the A had the wide front axle, and the B could be had with either the narrow front or the single front, but not a wide front. Looks like it would have been simpler for IH to offer only the A, and then make the wide front optional.
